Beauty Relating to Wellness By Brianna R. on Friday, September 29, 2017

Hi, my name is Brianna and I am a green tea matcha addict! I can’t help but love that green powder!

You may be more familiar with green tea and could assume that matcha is the same, but it is very different. Visually you will see that matcha comes as a bright green powder.

  • Green tea is made by water being infused through the tea leaves.
  • Matcha is made by grounding the whole leaves into a powdered form.

Since the entire leaf is being consumed, matcha has greater health benefits compared to regular green tea.

Fun and healthy facts about matcha:

  • 1 cup of matcha is equivalent to 3 cups of green tea
  • 3 times more antioxidants compared to green tea
  • Lowers the risk of heart disease
  • Fights bacteria, fungi, viruses, and inflammation for the body
  • Promotes cell repair and maintains healthy arteries
  • May help with weight loss and fat burning
  • Boosts alertness
  • Improves concentration, memory, and mood

I still love a good old-fashioned iced green tea, but I absolutely love matcha! The benefits of it just make it one of my favorite beverages. Matcha honestly doesn’t taste as bitter to me compared to green tea, but if you do prefer to sweeten it up, a drop of agave nectar or stevia will do the trick!

Check out my two favorite drink recipes using green tea matcha below!

Green Matcha Smoothie Recipe:

  • 1 1/2 cups Almond Milk (any non-dairy choice)
  • 1 Banana, frozen or not
  • 1-2 tsp. Green Tea Matcha Powder
  • 1 Tbs. Chia Seeds
  • Scoop of vanilla protein (optional)

  • Add the ingredients in the order listed above. Best to use a frozen banana for thickness, but if not add in ice cubes for desired texture.
  • Blend and let sit for a minute so the chia seeds absorb and thicken. Enojy!

The Green Matcha Smoothie is so good! Since I am usually up as early as 5am to train my clients, I am usually having breakfast on the go. I love adding vanilla vegan protein powder to this smoothie because I feel very satiated after drinking it.

If I am rushing in the morning and need a quick drink to make that contains the caffeine I need to get me through my busy day with clients, I choose to make Chia Green Tea. I take all three ingredients, place them into my protein shaker cup, shake it up and BAM, less than 60 seconds later I have my drink for the morning. I use my drive in the car to give the chia seeds time to absorb the water.

Chia Green Tea

  • 8-12 oz of water
  • 1-2tsp. Green Tea Matcha Powder
  • 1 Tbs. Chia Seeds

  1. Fill up your choice of a glass or a shaker cup with water.
  2. Add in matcha powder and stir.
  3. Add in chia seeds and let it sit on top of the water.
  4. Store in refrigerator for 10 minutes for great chia seed absorption. For best results, I do an overnight soak or soak up to 2-3 hours.
  5. Once chis seeds are absorbed, stir in through the rest of the glass. Add your choice of sweetener if you wish!
  6. Drink up and enjoy!
